And if you ever have to write it on a napkin, the answer is K-E-T-T-E L.What would keep me home? Too many comedians on the ticket. 3 is about max for me. Just a personal preference. If the venue allows people to eat / order during the show, its not worth going, for the reasons you said. Its frustrating to not hear the setup or the line....cause what I make up in my head is not near as funny.Cost would be the final factor. I appreciate that its entertainment, and sometimes, high quality entertainment! But go much over $30 and its tough for me to justify. Thanks for asking!

Go easy on the comic opening/emceeing. This line is part of a patter that is somewhat expected of him or her. Their job is get the audience pumped and clapping and ready for a comedy show. If they're funny also, great they must remember job one.
They call it "taking a bullet" for a reason. I got the THRILL of opening for Norm MacDonald because the feature did not want to say "How is everybody doing tonight" etc. I will take bullets like that anytime. :D
As for riffing with the audience, I think of it like playing the violin, it's beautiful if the person knows how to play it well, painful otherwise. I can watch Russell Peters crowd work all day. Likewise Joe Klocek, but for the most part and with most comics I must agree with you, keep it to a minimum.

Re: How everybody doing tonight.<br
